My qualifications in training included four years of medical school, five years of general surgery training as well as plastic surgery training. I did my plastic surgery training at Yale University and then went on for an additional fellowship in microsurgery. I have been also involved in teaching for the last 25 years and was vice chairman of the department of plastic surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center and also was an assistant chairman at the University of Medicine in Dentistry of New Jersey where we started the plastic surgery training program about 20 years ago. I am a board certified plastic surgeon and board certification means that not only have I completed my complete plastic surgery training, but also means that I took the tests and examinations, both oral and written and passed those examinations to be certified in plastic surgery. A board certified plastic surgeon is eligible for membership in certain societies, and I am a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Cosmetic Surgeons. I have also chosen to devote most of my practice at the present time to cosmetic surgery in the development of new procedures and the exploration of the latest technologies in plastic surgery. In choosing a plastic surgeon, I believe it is important for a patient or a prospective patient to search out a board certified plastic surgeon because being board certified means that the individual has gone through extensive training in his particular field and has had to pass certain examinations that set some aside and above others. The field of plastic surgery itself has unique and varied experiences, not only in cosmetic but in reconstructive surgery, which gives the practitioner a much broader experience to draw from when he is trying to develop the treatment program for his individual patient.
